Late last night Police in Clayton made an arrest in the incident
reported early

Byron Place in Clayton. Area Police agencies are investigating

described in the previous crime advisory. An update will be
provided as
more information becomes available.
Crime Alert:
In
the past week there have been four incidents reported to local law
enforcement
agencies that have occurred in neighborhoods adjacent to the Danforth
Campus or
in neighborhoods where a number of residents of our University
community
reside. Two have occurred in the City of St. Louis, one in
University
City, and one in Clayton.
These incidents appear to have several things in common. A black
male,
described as being 5’6” to 5’8”, weighing between 140-175 pounds,
between 20
and 30 years of age approaches a victim, displays a handgun, and
attempts to
rob the victim. In at least one case the victim was asked to
remove
articles of clothing. In the latest incident, which occurred at
approximately 12:30am today in the Moorlands neighborhood in Clayton
(east of
Hanley and south of Wydown Blvd.), the victim, who is not a member of
the
Washington University community was sexually assaulted.
Law enforcement agencies in St. Louis, University City, and Clayton
have
primary responsibility for investigating these incidents. The
Washington
University Police Department is providing local law enforcement
additional
assistance and has increased campus patrols of the area.
The University urges all members of our community to be especially
vigilant and
to report any suspicious persons or activity to their local police
department. As a reminder, the University provides a Campus to
Home ride
service from the Danforth Campus to neighborhoods where a number of
residents
reside. Vans leave from in front of Mallinckrodt Center and from
the
steps in front of Brookings Hall every half hour between 7:00pm and
2:00am. A walking security escort is available on the Danforth
Campus
between 8:00pm and 2:00am and can be arranged by calling WUPD at
935-5555.
We also urge our community to exercise caution and to use good judgment
in
walking to and from campus at night. Follow crime prevention
guidelines: Don’t walk alone. If you believe you’re being
followed,
cross the street, run, or seek shelter whenever possible. If
you’re
approached by someone requesting money or your personal belongings,
give them
what they request. If you have a whistle, blow it.
Additional
crime prevention information is available at police.wustl.edu
We will update this crime alert as additional information becomes
available or
