Crime Alerts 

A campus alert is issued when circumstances arise that require heightened awareness from the University community. Campus alerts will describe information about specific incidents which have posed a threat to life or property. This information is disseminated throughout the campus, typically through the printed media.





Crime Alerts 2013

INCIDENT:                           Burglary

LOCATION:                         6100 block of Waterman

DATE/TIME:                        April 28, 2013 at about 2:15pm

SPECIFICS:                           The resident of an apartment in the 6100 block of Waterman heard glass break at the rear of his apartment Sunday afternoon about 2:15pm.  He went to check on the noise and observed the suspect in his kitchen.  The suspect then fled.  St. Louis Police are investigating.

SUSPECT
DESCRIPTION: White male; 40-50 years of age; about 6’ tall; bald; grey moustache; dark jacket; thin to medium build;

PRECAUTIONS:
We recommend you take the following precautions:
•             Report suspicious persons or activity immediately to Police at 9-1-1 or go to the nearest emergency telephone.
•             LOCK YOUR APARTMENT DOOR, even when you are at home.
•             Lock the windows to your apartment.  If you have a sliding glass door, secure it further by placing a piece of wood in the track to prevent it from opening.
•             Never prop open exterior doors or gates.  If you see a door propped, close it.
•             Don’t allow people you do not know to “tailgate” behind you into the building.
•             When someone knocks at your door, don’t open it unless you know your visitor.
•             If the person is a maintenance person, ask that identification be slipped under the door or through the mail slot.  Call the employer to verify that maintenance work was scheduled to be performed.  Refuse to deal with anyone who won’t comply with this request.
•             Someone may knock at your door to use the telephone.  Never open the door.  Take the message and make the call for them.
•             If you arrive home to find your door ajar, hear unusual sounds or believe your apartment has been broken into, DON’T GO IN!  Go to a telephone and call the Police.
•             When you are away from your residence, leave your interior lights on.

RESPONSE:                         Report suspicious activities/persons immediately to the St. Louis Police at 9-1-1 or via Blue Light Emergency Telephone.   Contact St. Louis Police if you have any information that might assist in this investigation.

INCIDENT:           Robbery

LOCATION:         Alley in the 6800 block of Washington (between Kingsland and Trinity)

DATE/TIME:        Saturday, March 30 at about 1:15am

SPECIFICS:           A male victim reported that at about 1:15am Saturday he had been walking in the alley in the 6800 block of Washington (between Kingsland and Trinity) when he was approached by a suspect who told him to give him his wallet.  The victim refused and the suspect reportedly lifted his shirt and revealed a handgun tucked in his waistband. The victim eventually gave the suspect his wallet.  The suspect then ran away and as he did he removed some cash from the wallet and threw the wallet to the ground. The victim was not physically injured and could provide only a very limited description of the suspect.  UCPD is investigating.

PRECAUTIONS:
•             Avoid walking or jogging alone and never walk or jog alone after dark.
•             Always choose a well-lit path and avoid dark or vacant areas.
•             Carry a whistle to summon help.
•             Be alert to your surroundings.  If you suspect you are being followed, run in a different direction; go to the other side of the street and yell or whistle for help; or head quickly to a lighted area, a group of people, or business.
•             If you are confronted by a thief, give them what they want and don’t chase them as they leave.  Report suspicious persons or activity immediately to the Police.
•             Be extra cautious if someone approaches your car and asks for information.

INCIDENT:                           Robbery

LOCATION:                         Rosedale at Waterman

DATE/TIME:                        Thursday, January 24 at about 11:15am

SPECIFICS:                           A victim reports he was walking near the intersection of Rosedale and Waterman at about 11:15am on Thursday when he was approached by the suspect who displayed a handgun and demanded his book bag.  The suspect then fled on foot to the north.  The victim was not physically injured.

SUSPECT
DESCRIPTION:                   Black male; late 20’s; approximately 5’7” in height; heavy build; beard consisting of light facial hair; wearing a black skull cap with a white circle logo on it, black puffy coat, dark pants, and carrying a green messenger bag (taken from victim)

INCIDENT:                           Burglary

DATE:                                    Approximately 6:30am on Monday, January 21

LOCATION:                         7300 block of Forsyth

SPECIFICS:                           Residents of an apartment reported a suspect entered through a kitchen window and stood in a doorway and spoke with the occupants demanding property.  The suspect took some electronic items and fled the area in an unknown direction. The victims were not physically injured.  University City Police are investigating.

SUSPECT
DESCRIPTION:                   Black male; approximately 35-40 years of age; tall and slender; wearing blue jeans, a light colored hat, and white hoody jacket.

PRECAUTIONS:
