Death Threats E-Mails Cyber Alert

In the past few months, law enforcement has seen a rise in the number of death threats being delivered by e-mail. The e-mails claim that they have been hired to harm or kill the recipient unless the recipient pays them a specific sum of money. The content of the e-mail is very general and there are a number of variation e-mails circulating over the internet.  If one of these e-mails is received, it is recommended that the recipient not respond in any way. The recipient should contact the Internet Complaint Center (IC3), a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National White Collar Crime Center, and file a complaint.

If any recipient believes a specific threat might be authentic, local law enforcement should be notified immediately.
