About the Washington University Police Department

We at Washington University in St. Louis are committed to the safety of our students, faculty and staff. Campus safety is a responsibility and a priority shared by all of us in the university community. Through the joint efforts of the Washington University Police Department and the campus community, we can reduce the opportunity for crime to occur.


The Washington University Police Department (WUPD) provides services such as emergency telephones, crime prevention and safety programs, and transportation services, as well as resources you can utilize to protect yourself and our campus.


Mission Statement


The mission of the Washington University Police Department is to work in partnership with our campus community to cultivate a safe learning environment by providing high quality police service to all in a fair, sensitive and professional manner, while promoting crime prevention awareness.​​

CALEA Accreditation

On March 24, 2018, the Washington University Police Department achieved Accreditation through the Commission of Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).  More information about the accreditation process is available here. ​​
