Specifics

It was reported to WUPD that between 7:00pm and 10:30pm on 07/26/2022, six (6) vehicles were broken into in the area of the 700 block of Rosedale. When this incident occurred, the victims were attending a concert at a local venue. The victims reported miscellaneous personal items stolen.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating. WUPD will be conducting increased patrols in the area.

WUPD has issued several security memos in the past month related to car thefts and break-ins. Local police municipalities have recently reported an increase in motor vehicle break-ins across the St. Louis region.

Incident Related Information
On 07/17/2022 at 6:50pm, a student reported to WUPD that at 2:30pm they had parked and secured their Hyundai Elantra in the 500 block of Kingsland. Upon returning at 6:50pm the student observed glass on the ground and their vehicle gone. The student immediately reported the incident to University City PD and to WUPD.
Within the last few weeks, there have been three reports of vehicles stolen in the University City area. They have all been Hyundai or Kia brand vehicles.
Local police municipalities have recently reported an increase in motor vehicle thefts of Kia and Hyundai brand vehicles.

University City is investigating these incidents. WUPD will be conducting increased patrols in the area.

At around 9:15pm on 06/29/2022, there was a “strong-arm” robbery outside a restaurant in the 6100 block of McPherson. A female store employee had just closed the business and was walking to her car when a female subject approached her. The female subject said something unintelligible to the employee. When the employee did not respond, the subject began to physically assault the employee while trying to take the employee’s purse. As the two were struggling, a male subject, approached and took the employee’s purse. Both the male and female subjects got into a vehicle parked nearby and fled the scene, driving east on McPherson. No weapons were displayed.

The victim described the first subject as a heavy-set 5’7” female, estimated to be in her mid-30s with a gap between her front teeth. The female subject was wearing a blue scarf around her head and a blue and white shirt. The second subject was described by the victim as a male in his 40s wearing a blue t-shirt.

The victim sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene and released by emergency medical services.

On 06/29/2022 at 8:22am, it was reported to WUPD that four male subjects were possibly trying to break into vehicles parked on a private parking lot in the 6200 block of Delmar. When officers arrived on scene, the subjects had already fled the area and the officers found that three vehicles had been broken into and wallets had been removed. It was later determined that the subjects arrived in a blue BMW SUV and left in the same vehicle.

WUPD is assisting the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department in their investigation into this incident. WUPD will be conducting increased patrols in the area.
