Security Memo-Carjacking
5900 block Delmar

Specifics

At approximately 12 a.m. on September 18, two non-Washington University-affiliated people had just parked their car in the rear of an apartment building in the 5900 block of Delmar, near Hamilton Ave. As they exited their vehicle, three subjects wearing surgical masks approached them, displayed a handgun, and demanded their property. The subjects then entered the person's car and drove away, last seen heading north on Hamilton Ave.
The incident was reported to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD).
At 12:30 a.m., the roommate of one of the victims in this incident, who is a Washington University graduate student, contacted WUPD and reported that her car key had been in her roommate's purse, which was stolen during the carjacking. When WUPD officers arrived to assist the student, it was discovered that her vehicle had been stolen from the parking lot. SLMPD determined that the subjects had stolen the vehicle shortly after the carjacking, and had left the area.
No injuries were reported.

• Avoid walking or jogging alone and never walk or jog alone after dark. Choose a well-lit path and avoid dark or vacant areas.

• If you are confronted by a thief, give them what they want and don’t chase them as they leave. Report suspicious persons or activity immediately to the Police.

Skinker-DeBaliviere neighborhood

Specifics

At approximately 11:35 p.m., there were three robberies in a short length of time and in close proximity to each other in the Skinker-DeBaliviere neighborhood. These incidents are similar in nature to an incident that occurred at 2 a.m. on September 6 involving a Washington University student. In that incident, the student was approached by two male subjects who displayed a handgun, punched the student, and took his personal property before leaving the scene in a vehicle.
The first robbery on September 7 involved two Washington University students. The students were walking near Westminster Place and Laurel when two male subjects approached them. The subjects displayed a handgun and took the students’ personal property. The subjects then fled to a nearby parked vehicle and drove away from the area.
The second robbery took place in the 5800 block of Pershing. The subjects’ actions were similar to those of the first robbery, however, the victim was not affiliated with Washington University.
The third robbery took place in the 6000 block of Pershing. Two subjects approached a Washington University graduate student who was seated in his vehicle with the car window open. One of the subjects punched the student through the window, opened the door of the vehicle and took the student’s personal property. The subjects then fled to a nearby parked vehicle and drove away from the area.

Response

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is actively investigating all four incidents. WUPD has increased patrols with additional officers in the neighborhood to provide safety escorts for students walking to their apartments after parking their cars.

• Be alert to your surroundings. Do not sit in your car to text or use electronic devices, and be observant while walking. If you suspect you are being followed, run in a different direction; go to the other side of the street and yell or whistle for help; or head quickly to a lighted area, a group of people, or business.

Security Memo-Armed Robbery
6000 block Westminister

Specifics

At approximately 2:00 a.m. a student had just arrived home at his apartment in the 6000 block of Westminster Place when two male subjects approached him. One of the subjects displayed a handgun and the subjects “patted” the student down and took his personal property. The subjects then punched the student and later fled to a nearby parked vehicle. The subjects were last seen driving south on Des Peres Blvd.

Specifics

At approximately 10:40 p.m., a student parked his car in the 6200 block of Enright Blvd., near The Lofts. As the student was sitting in the car, a subject walked up to the vehicle, displayed a handgun and told the student to exit his vehicle. The subject entered the vehicle and drove away, last seen heading east.
No injuries were reported.

Response

University City Police Department has reported that an arrest has been made in this incident but are continuing their investigation.
