At 9:00pm on 11-03-2021, WUPD was alerted to an incident that had occurred earlier in the day.

A student reported that he was walking south on Skinker Blvd near Washington St. when he was approached by three subjects. As the subjects walked past the student, one of the subjects grabbed a bag containing personal items from the student’s hand. All three subjects then ran north on Skinker into an alley.
The subjects did not say anything to the student. The subjects did not display or infer they had a weapon. The student was not injured as a result of this encounter.
A review of surveillance cameras in the area revealed that two of the subjects had no distinguishing or identifiable characteristics but the third subject wore a dark hoodie with the words “REACH FOR THE STARS” written on the back.

Response

WUPD is assisting the St. Louis City Police Department in this investigation.

• Be alert to your surroundings. Do not sit in your car to text or use electronic devices, and be observant while walking. If you suspect you are being followed, run in a different direction; go to the other side of the street and yell or whistle for help; or head quickly to a lighted area, a group of people, or business
• Carry a whistle to summon help.
• Be extra cautious if someone approaches you or your vehicle and asks for information or if someone asks to use your cell phone.

Specifics

Four students reported that at or about 4:50 am, they were sleeping in their apartment in the 6600 Block of Kingsbury when they heard “rattling noises”. A short time later, one of the students saw their bedroom door open and shut. It was later discovered that an unidentified person had entered the apartment and took a television and electronic gaming system from the living room area. It is believed that the subject may have entered through an unlocked bathroom window.

Additionally, another student living in a different apartment in the 6600 Block of Kingsbury, reported that his roommate was awakened by a noise around 5:00 am. When the students got up a short time later, they discovered that a television and laptop computer were missing. It is believed that the subject may have entered through an unlocked back door.

Specifics

A student reported that at 3:15am, they was sleeping in her apartment in the 7200 block of Forsyth, near Manhattan Ave. The student woke up when the lights in their room turned on and then immediately turned off. The student walked into the kitchen and found a person standing in the kitchen, looking inside the refrigerator. The person then immediately fled out the back door.

The University City Police Department reported that they tentatively identified and arrested the person who they believe was inside the apartment.

A student reported that at 7pm, they left their apartment in the 6100 block of Waterman Blvd., near Rosedale Ave. When they returned to their apartment at 10pm, they discovered a window had been broken out. Upon checking the apartment, the student discovered that a television and electronic gaming system were missing from the family room area.

Additionally, another student reported that at 8:15 pm, they left their apartment in the 6000 block of Waterman Blvd., near Des Peres Ave. When they returned to their apartment at 10pm, they discovered an open window. Upon checking the apartment, the student discovered that 2 televisions and various electronics were missing from the family room and a bedroom.

St. Louis Metro Police Department is investigating both incidents.

WUPD has been made aware of rumors that are circulating about a safety threat to the Danforth Campus. These rumors are unsubstantiated. Per our normal protocols, we are constantly monitoring social media and other sources. We know there have been numerous posts in the past several days that have caused concern in our community. We are actively investigating these posts and at this time there is no reason to believe that there is a credible threat to the university.

If we ever believe there is any kind of physical threat to any of our campuses, we will immediately notify our community through WashU Alert text messages or other communications. We take this matter extremely seriously and will always put the safety of all members of our community first.

Anyone with information about a credible threat to campus is asked to call WUPD at 314-935-5555.

East End Danforth Campus

Previously Reported Person with a Weapon

This afternoon a community member reported to WUPD that they had seen a person carrying something that looked like a gun on the east end of the Danforth Campus. They reported that the individual was walking toward an academic building.

WUPD issued an emergency alert to the Danforth Campus with instructions to shelter in place, or to “Run, Hide, Fight” if anyone were to encounter a dangerous person. Officers conducted a thorough search of buildings on the east end of campus and located the person in question within about an hour. After speaking with the person, officers determined that there was no threat. An all-clear message was sent to campus at 4:23 pm.

Beaumont House

Yesterday afternoon, WUPD responded to Beaumont House for a report of a person stealing a television from the laundry room. WUPD officers quickly located the person and recovered the television. The person was arrested and taken to the WUPD station. The person was released pending criminal charges.

Early this morning, WUPD officer responded to the Village area in response to a call of a suspicious person. WUPD officers located the same person from the day before as they were walking outside, near the Millbrook Apartments. The person informed officers that they had returned to retrieve a suitcase that they had left. Officers located the person’s suitcase and discovered property inside the bag that had been previously reported stolen. The person was arrested and taken to the WUPD station and then released pending criminal charges.

All recovered property was returned to the owners.


Suspect

The person is described as a black female; 23 years of age; medium build 5ft 2in tall and weighing 130 lbs; brown eyes and black braided hair; wearing black casual pants and a grey WU sweatshirt.

LOCK YOUR ROOM or OFFICE DOOR whenever you leave, even if it’s for a short time.

Update: The on-site investigation has been completed by St. Louis Metro and University City Police. All streets and parking area are open.

WUPD officers will remain in the area to assist any community members. For any assistance, call WUPD Dispatch at 314-935-5555.

At approximately 11:45 am, two vehicles, described only as a white Toyota car and a truck, were driving west in the 5900 block of Delmar Blvd (east of the Delmar Metro Station). The occupants of the vehicles began shooting at each other as they continued driving west along Delmar Blvd, entering University City.

One vehicle was located in the University City Municipal Garage on Delmar, near Eastgate Ave. Two occupants of the vehicle were transported to the hospital with unknown injuries. The other vehicle fled the area.

University City Police and St. Louis Metro Police are investigating this incident.

At approximately 7:30 pm, a student reported that he was walking away from campus in the 7000 block of Forsyth Blvd. The student stated a blue car stopped in the street next to him when a male subject exited the vehicle and approached him. The subject displayed a silver handgun and demanded the student’s jacket and shoes. The student gave the subject his jacket and shoes and the subject returned to the car. The car then drove away and was last seen heading west on Forsyth Blvd.
No injuries were reported.
